China Bound 3

China may be over 5000 miles from Oregon but at a recent event it never felt closer to some local fashion designers and retail shop owners that are planning a trip there in the Spring of 2011.

Jeremiah Stroup local media personality and event emcee moderated a private press conference at "China Bound 3" an internationally inspired event hosted at the Benson Hotel in downtown Portland, Oregon. The event was attended by fashion press and fashion supporters alike that wanted to see that latest collection from Project Runway Season 7 winner Seth Aaron along side up and coming designers like Tony Dimitri and other local fashion retails and "influencers".

If guests missed Seth's solar inspired collection seen at Portland Fashion Week (2010) they got to see it at "China Bound 3" with a few new twists. All involved stuck around after wards to shake hands, take photos and meet with fans. The mood was festive and encouraging as local support to take Portland's design savvy to the manufacturing powerhouse of China seems strong.

The Runway Was Rocked

August 14th 2010 The Benson Hotel was packed with local fashion fans for the 5th annual Rock the Runway Event Presented by Semper Fashion. This Rock and Roll inspired fashion event featured two local rock bands (Oceans Above us & Suburban Anthem) and a slew of local designers and clothing shops. The second floor of the Benson was filled with vendors in a colorful display that could have made Saturday market jealous. From the entry to the check in table where guests could choose to pay general admission or upgrade to "Rock Star" status for a few dollars more where they could receive the VIP treatment. The event was hosted by Jeremiah Stroup a local TV and event host who runs several marketing organizations on and off the web and acts as a social entrepreneur and spokesperson on most occasions. He was joined several times on stage by Tod Foulk of Semper Fashion. This "fashion cowboy" is unmatched in down home flare and gusto topped off by his signature cowboy hats. Sponsors like Guitar Center brought in some firepower including lighting and ample sound that both seems to cover the space from wall to wall. Documart provide a 'paparazzi' banner that most guests seemed to pose in front of at one point or another in the evening. The doors opened at 7pm with the show starting around 10pm. The temperature and excitement in the room both continued to rise throughout the night culminating in an all out fashion fest that was as irreverent as it was eclectic and all together entertaining. The room was filled with the 'who's who' of Portland, making it hard to tell the difference between a fashion fan and a VIP guest at times. Notable guests from the night included Marie Saturn of Saturn Style Photography & Design Studios, Byrce Amato a renowned interior designer, Miss Plus America 2010 Latasha Haskins, Tony Dimitri Fashion Designer and numerous members from the press and media. "For a room to draw such a diverse group of people, all here to support sustainable local businesses on a hot night like tonight is a huge testimate to the the event's creators and the people of Portland," said event host Jeremiah Stroup. The night concluded with more food, drink and fun as chairs where ushered away to reveal a dance floor more then suitable for the well dressed guest to "get down" on. Tips for Better Relaxation

We call get a little tense or stressed at times. Relaxation is key to finding balance during a busy day. Below are some tips we want to share with you and a link to a two minute relaxation technique video.

Body Position for Relaxation Technique
The 1st step is to sit with your back straight but not tense. If you can, loosen any clothing that feels tight around your waist.
Relaxation Technique
When you inhale, you'll be inhaling slowly through your nose. When you exhale, you'll be exhaling slowly and completely through your mouth. Try it now.
Most of us don't breathe deeply enough. Instead, we're shallow breathers and air only really enters the top part of our lungs. That's especially so for people who wear tight clothing or sit hunched over at the computer.
What we need to do is use the most important muscle used for breathing, our diaphragm. It's a sheet of muscle at the bottom of the lungs.
So, place one hand below your ribs. When you inhale, allow that hand to expand outwards. When you exhale, let that hand fall back to its original position. It may feel strange at first and it takes practice, so be patient with yourself.

Refining Relaxation Technique
The last step is to count. Exhalation should take twice as long as inhalation.
So let's put it all together:
  • Breathe in and count in your head starting from one
  • Breathe out and try to make twice as long
  • So if you counted to three when you inhaled, count to six when you exhale.
And that's it. When you're beginning, just repeat this 4 or 5 more times and work up from there.
As you practice this technique, you'll find it becomes more and more effective at relaxing you when you're stressed.
In the middle of a busy day, it's a nice way to give yourself a small, well-deserved break, to take care of you.

    Look Younger Eat Beauty Foods

    Beauty foods for younger-looking skin
We know we are what we eat but many people may be surprised that what you eat can really affect the health of your skin and how you look.
Check out this excerpt from Shine's Guide to Great Skin.

"Turns out, the vast majority of UV light that I was soaking up was UVA. UVA is a major contributor to premature skin aging (think: fine lines and wrinkles) because it penetrates deeper than UVB light and damages skin cells before there's any visible sunburn.
Even worse, collagen-the fibrous protein that keeps skin firm, youthful-looking and wrinkle-free-begins to decline starting in your twenties!
Now that I'm older and wiser-and not anxious to look the part-I'm wearing more sunscreen to protect my skin from the outside in. And because I'm a registered dietitian and nutrition editor, I've seen the science that shows eating more of these foods will protect my skin from the inside out."

The article goes on to list food to Keep your skin looking younger-for the rest of your life-
Here are 4 of the foods they list; tuna, strawberries, tofu, and tomatoes.

So What do you do to keep your skin healthy?
Leave us a comment with your tips or favorite beauty foods.

    Boost Your Energy Levels

One sure sign of Youth is energy. If you are searching to look and feel younger in Vancouver or where ever your journey may take you giving yourself a natural boost of energy is always helpful.
B12 is known as the "energy vitamin" because it gives a real energy boost. It is used to remedy fatigue and it speeds up the metabolism. Red blood cells are also responsible for producing hemoglobin, the part of the blood that takes oxygen from the lungs and transports it to all the different parts of the body.1
B12 can be found in many foods, but to get high levels of B12 many people get shots. Now if a needle sounds like the last thing you want to stare down to get an energy boost, you may opt for supplements like so many Americans are trending towards these days.
Good quality supplements, grown organically with good quality control methods are best, that way what it says on the bottle matches what you put in your body.
Or course Energy on the go is always nice and some energy drinks have figured out how powerful B12 can be. Steer clear of energy drinks with high sugar levels. You may get a boost for a short time but you'll also crash once the sugar wears off. That's never good especially when you are in the middle of work or play. XS Energy Drinks have 4900% of your RDA of B12 and are sugar free, look for drinks like that if you want to boost your B12 on the fly and keep your youthful bounce when you need it most.

    Inside us all

There are two things inside me, competing with the human self which I must try to become. They are the Animal self, and the Diabolical self. The Diabolical self is the worse of the two. That is why a cold, self-righteous prig who goes regularly to church may be far nearer to hell than a prostitute. But, of course, if is better to be neither.

    Return to Change

Back from Vegas. And I am changed. I think about how silly we are as humans. Why do we have to go on a journey, or take a quest before we can change our thinking. The journey without doesn't mean much unless we journey within but our trips and exploits seem be a catalyst for change. I am expanding my expectations for myself, saying good bye to fear, leaving things behind, embracing new ideals and hoping for a tomorrow that shines brighter then today.

    Doing it Anyway

This quote inspires me to move forward and do my best in spite of others and some days in spite of myself. I hope it moves you closer to your dreams as well.

    People are unreasonable,
    illogical, and self-centered,

    LOVE THEM ANYWAY

If you do good, people will
    accuse you of selfish,
    ulterior motives,

    DO GOOD ANYWAY

If you are successful, you win
    false friends and true enemies,

    SUCCEED ANYWAY

    The good you do will
    be forgotten tomorrow,

    DO GOOD ANYWAY

    Honesty and frankness
    make you vulnerable,

    BE HONEST AND FRANK ANYWAY

    What you spent years building
    may be destroyed overnight,

    BUILD ANYWAY

    People really need help but
may attack you if you help them,

    HELP PEOPLE ANYWAY

Give the world the best you
    have and you'll get kicked
    in the teeth,

GIVE THE WORLD THE BEST YOU'VE GOT ANYWAY.

    What's Next.: Extend and Expand

Today I head to central Washington as part of our national expansion. I am slated to go to Las Vegas in March, and we should be adding affiliates in Los Angles, San Deigo, and New York in the months ahead. Our target markets include dynamic members of Gen-Y and Gen-X that are well versed in social media and not overly concerned with others opinions. In fact that are influencers not afraid to share their own thoughts and ideas with the world and stand boldly on topics of interest, causes and core beliefs.

Malcolm Gladwell talks about these taste-makers and trends setters in his book "The Tipping Point" naming them "Connectors", "Mavens" and "Salesmen".

These local icons may hold key positions in the community or simply have massive influence over those who do. In John Maxwell's book "360 Degree Leader" he points out that you don't have to be on the "top" of an organization to have influence or create change. I couldn't agree more. So who will you influence today?

    Get Invaded

Working on the Social Media for Invasion Ultra Lounge should be an interesting exploration. This Ultra Lounge features retro furnished seating area on the main floor in view of the bar and an upstairs loft with VIP areas and more seating for groups and special events like Birthday Parties. This venue has been open for about a year now but is in the process of re-branding itself and is still undiscovered by much of the Portland club goers. The clubs new approach is designed to appeal to the mainstream crowd while keeping the pull it has for the eclectic crowds and divers groups that seem to fit will with it's dynamic decor and hip urban vibe.

    22 Days in

This New Year, as it is lovingly called 20-10 is off to an interesting start. I spoke to a small group of businesses owners this week about how many of us may have had a 'false start' to 2010. We perhaps with ambition and drive rushed into this new year with great expectations only to stumble and fall a few days into our race. Never mind that, we can still jump back up, dust ourselves off and move on from here. We can regain momentum, and take a realistic view of what it really will take to achieve all we have set out to do. Effort, determination and a wiliness to 'earn it' are all important elements on our road to success. My daily reading from accent texts has started well and I do have to say boosts my knowledge and confidence as each day I add to my track record of success. I hope to add Blogging/Vlogging to my weekly agenda and find other new and key habits that will add to my success. Call it putting the "Slight Edge" to work for me, in the end each day we build the future we will one day live in, and I am excited to see what 2010 holds for all of us.
